I like Ike

On Strike witches, sort of a live blog.

I like Ike. One of the guys who shows up at the start is someone I am certain I recognize. I am fairly sure it is Eisenhower.

I guess Red Hair/Red Eyes is the XO or the CO of the unit, with Major Eye Patch being the other.

Regarding early morning training, if the paperload of these officers is anything like that of officers I've read about in more realistic works, early morning may be the only time she can spare to sharpen her sword skills.

Liberion. Hehehehe... Even so, I prefer Federated States of Columbia. Soumus Air Force, I think Tom has them as the Soumi. Orussia seems pretty blatent. Romagna Regia? I suspect they meant Romana Regia, which would be latin for Roman palace/court, but I don't know italian. I notice sanya didn't speak, and seems to be wearing something that hides the front, not disproving the 'Trap' hypothesis.

WMG: Hypothesis: In this setting, the north american contitent is sort of a species wide sex chromozone for humanity.

Explanation: In our world, it is kind of a Y if you squint at it. In theirs, it is an X. Every man on our world is women on theirs, and vice versa.

Historical differences between ours and theirs: The country names come from different people doing the naming. However, it ended up that the people in charge of Europe during WWI were more competent, and the Reds ended up not taking Russia. Perhaps the Germans ended up not having the dolchstoss (sp?) myth. With this change, Facism doesn't prosper near as much in the rest of Europe. Certainly Adolpha is not going to do as well as Adolph*. Also as a result of a White Russia, Fuso does not get so far into the Middle Kingdom as Japan, and there would have been no Nanking.

You know, the Britain as the last free nation of europe parallels between strike witches and WWII are pretty neat. Its as if the Neuroi have replaced the facists, everything aside from the air war ignored, and the facist pilots joined the free world. WMG: I wonder if the Fuso will turn out to be in league with the Neuroi. Consider how the Fuso naval task force was sunk after it started helping the witches, and not quite a bit prior on general principles.

Gallia: I think this might be better translated as Gaulia or so. Either that, or perhaps it should have been written that way in the first place.

Notice where Miyafuji's arm is when she and Bishop are lying sweaty and exhuasted on the ground.

Well, it is called spelled Gallia after all. At least they seem to have spelled Britannia properly. 'When first at Heaven's command arose...' and all that.

Yeager is a bunny girl.

Sanya used up all of her magic. I guess magic is the fuel.\

The real Neuroi resembles a V-2.

Why hasn't anyone taught Bishop to lead her targets?

Problem, while the Swiss (or, as I think Tom called them, the Helveatians) were neutral in WWII, I think they'd have been attacked here. Also consider all of the nations who were belligerents, but didn't have airplanes. Presumably they would be capable of producing magic users. In other words, even if the traits for a strike witch are as rare as those for an massively ace pilot, I'd think there would be more opertunity for the witch to develop.

How I would market strike witches in the United States: English voiceover, with the old WWII flimstrip vocal style and black and white footage.

Dateline 1944.

Europe has fallen under a terrible shadow.

Alone among occupied Europe, Britannia stands as a beacon of light and hope to the free world.

But she cannot go it alone.

To defeat the enemy, she needs the help of the rest of the free world and the courage and strength of its young
