Spoilers below the fold.  Short version, maybe one per half dozen girls.  For a total of maybe two, both adults. The latest PVs seem to confirm that the anime will be covering part of the 'tragic backstory', which does include one dead 'girl'. At 26 eps, if they pack things past where they should, they may be able to get to another arc with a dead girl.

Couple issues with the randomc.net preview. One, the brother can use magic, just not very well by conventional standards. More precisely, the family the 'Shiba' siblings come from was created by breeding people with certain abnormal traits. Because of what he inherited, the brother isn't considered a legitimate magic user by family. Yes, he has been modified, and is actually quite able, but he lacks by many of the measures the school puts weight on. His theory is good enough that he can mostly use that for academic work. Of course, he gets into a lot of outside trouble.

The other issue is that I don't see the words militarism or nationalism. That and like nitpicking may well fall under the heading of 'not enough space'.
